Guided by the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion, the US Field Team Lead will manage Microsoft Philanthropies community engagement activities in Chicago, Illinois.
Responsibilities
Community Engagement Program Management:
Builds and nurtures relationships with community stakeholders to understand societal challenges and opportunities in the region and how Microsoft can help address them.
Tells the story of Microsoft’s work to address four societal pillars – support an inclusive economic recovery, protect fundamental rights, commit to a sustainable future and earn trust – focusing on efforts to help close the skills gap and enhance employability for underserved jobseekers, support Black and African American people and communities through racial equity initiatives, and address sustainability issues.
Helps sustain community programs by using Microsoft’s voice to help drive additional funding through collaborative partnerships that entice federal and state grants, and partnerships with the private sector and local/regional Foundations
Supports program owners to successfully land programs locally in key US cities:
Skills for jobs:
Assist with volunteer recruitment, event coordination, and nonprofit and community outreach for digital skilling, workforce development and job placement efforts, including assisting to support local Microsoft Cybersecurity Scholars, and skills for sustainability
Equitable computer science – help recruit TEALS schools and volunteers and other CS partner programming
Non-Profit Tech – assist with 1) identifying nonprofit partners that should be considered for a strategic depth engagement; 2) actively promoting the scaled motion to community-based nonprofits across the US; 3) provide introduction to partners that can drive awareness i.e. foundations, chamber of commerce, city leaders; and 4) help drive attendance at workshop and capacity building events
Employee engagement:
Assist with employee engagement initiatives to support local non-profits
Other priority programs across Microsoft, as determined by corp program owners (eg. Airband)
Supports State Government Affairs as requested in their engagement with key elected officials and govt influencers
Coordinates with additional Microsoft teams and business groups to further Microsoft Philanthropy community engagement activities
Develops and manages project timelines, and plans for Workforce and Career programs.
Develops partnerships with nonprofit, advocacy, community-based, and related groups to advance corporate social responsibility (e.g., philanthropies, accessibility, sustainability) programs.
Recommends improvements to Microsoft corporate social responsibility (e.g., philanthropies, accessibility, sustainability) initiatives based on community and stakeholder feedback.
Coordinates and produces local events to promote digtial skilling and technology innovation.
Representing Microsoft
Contributes to the messaging and communications strategy to ensure programs are integrated into internal and external stakeholder messaging.
Understands and applies detailed knowledge of Microsoft and Corporate and Legal Affairs strategies to drive results and program integrity.
Evaluates Microsoft technology to determine how products and software can be used to solve societal issues and create opportunities in the community.
Participates in internal and external events to communicate information on Microsoft corporate social responsibility (e.g., philanthropies, accessibility, sustainability) programs.
Internal Collaboration
Participates in and/or leads intra-group and/or cross-group projects and ensures accountability by leveraging project management approaches.
Seeks to understand and account for the objectives and priorities of stakeholders within Corporate Social Responsibility when making decisions.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience in education, HR, corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, or related area.
5+ years of experience with Chicago area non-profits, skilling networks, and regional leaders. Deep knowledge of Chicago area philanthropic and work development communities.Demonstrated experience with community engagement, digital skilling and connecting job seekers from nontraditional backgrounds with employment opportunities in Chicago, Illinois.
Demonstrated experience connecting job seekers from nontraditional backgrounds with employment opportunities in roles where they have been excluded from opportunity
Demonstrated experience leading a team or working with partners to design workforce programs focused on solving diversity, equity and inclusion challenges in the labor market
Demonstrated experience creating and delivering formal presentations to others. This includes sharing information on a range of topics in a clear, concise, engaging, and convincing manner; commanding the audience’s attention; developing effective presentation materials (e.g., handouts, visual aids); and handling questions or argumentative positions from the audience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
10+ years’ experience in education, HR, corporate social responsibility, philanthropies, or related area.
5+ years’ experience managing a corporate social responsibility or related program.
5+ years of people or team management experience.
5+ years of event execution or management of public events with regional and corporate leaders.
Demonstrated ability to work across a broad array of internal teams with strong communication and collaboration.
3+ years’ experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.
Demonstrated experience connecting job seekers from nontraditional backgrounds with employment opportunities specifically in the technology industry
Continuous Improvement – The ability to evaluate and improve existing products, processes, or services to achieve greater business results through productivity, efficiency, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
Public Speaking – The ability to effectively deliver trainings that communicate key information in front of an audience.
Synthesizing Information – The ability to synthesize large amounts of information into a simplified format and communicate this information to others in a clear and concise message.
