Tax & Trade is responsible for Worldwide Tax Reporting, Compliance, and Planning, including the technology and process functions to support the coordination of the worldwide tax and trade functions.
The Trade Compliance team preserves, creates, and enables international market access for products, software, technology, and services by providing oversight, guidance and requirements associated with cross-border movements. The team owns and manages export control and customs processes, ensuring compliance with all applications laws and regulations and provides import/export subject matter expertise internally and externally.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading the global customs team while identifying strategic planning opportunities, assessing risk, advocating in government and industry forums, and providing guidance to Microsoft business units and leadership on customs related matters. This is a senior position in the Tax and Trade organization and has responsibility for the customs operations in all the countries in which Microsoft operates.
Among the Director’s main responsibilities are ensuring with the global customs team that value (valuation), classification, origin and entry/clearance requirements are satisfied; any goods subject to import prohibition, restriction or licensing meet the applicable requirements; import activities comply with local customs laws and regulations; and business units can take advantage of trade agreements or any other duty reduction (savings) programs.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Development and management of people, processes, systems, and service providers.
Oversight of processes and controls involving filing of customs entries that accurately and timely declare the correct tariff classification, country of origin, valuation, and eligibility of goods to meet all applicable trade/duty avoidance programs.
Maximizing trade facilitation programs usage and duty avoidance opportunities.
Management and oversight of Custom brokers, agents, and service providers.
Champion the implementation, maintenance, and expansion of the Trade Security Programs like CTPAT, CSA, AEO across the Microsoft entities
Work closely with U.S. Customs and Border Protection initiatives and be active member of COAC (Commercial Customs Operations Advisory Committee).
Ensuring Microsoft operations are compliant and conducted in consistency with anti-corruption/bribery laws and policies.
Providing accurate and timely operational and strategic planning advice to Microsoft Global Customs and Trade leadership and the Business Units.
Ensuring appropriate coordination and consultation with regional leadership, business units, legal counsel, and other related entities; and
Identifying and implementing process efficiencies and operational improvements.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 10+ years Customs Operations Experience AND 5+ years of people management experience
OR Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 8+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience AND 5+ years of people management experience
OR equivalent experience.
Must be a licensed US Customs Broker.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 12+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience AND 5+ years people management experience
OR Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 10+ years corporate, trade, or supply chain experience AND 5+ years people management experience
OR Doctorate Degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 8+ years corporate, trade, and customs experience AND 5+ years people management experience
OR equivalent experience.
Certification with ECTI (similar export certification program) or equivalent
OR in-country professional trade certifications or licenses or equivalent.
Strong technical and analytical skills, preferably in a multinational corporation but also in a law firm, public accounting firm, government, brokerage operation or external Customs service provider.
The candidate shall also have proven experience and acumen in leading people and managing human resources, systems, processes, and resources in a large, complex, multi-faceted organization, as well as the ability to act as a team player working effectively with global executive leadership in global purchasing and supply chain, finance, legal and business units worldwide.
Experience in project management and an understanding of VAT, indirect taxation and/or transfer pricing activities and issues are also preferred.
The candidate shall have a strong sense of urgency and a considerable amount of creativity, perception and significant independent judgement, and excellent written, oral communications and presentation skills.
