Responsibilities

The individual will lead the development of an integrated EPC plan for datacenters that is aligned with the execution strategy from the permitting through the commissioning and hand over to the operations. He/She will accomplish this by working with functional owners and identify/challenge areas to deliver the most effective and competitive schedule that supports the growth program.

The individual will report to CVP Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Estimating & Cost Management and will have 2-3 direct reports initially. The scope will be expanded over time to support the FY23 and beyond datacenters objectives.

Business and Data Landscape

Identifies and develops a strategic agenda across multiple cross-functional teams to identify opportunities and gaps in the implementation of datacenters execution plan across EPC functions.

Conducts competitive analyses and examine related industry trends, as well as industry-specific requirements to identify opportunities, generate hypotheses, and build a plan to have a significant impact on the datacenter schedule development.

Develop a fully optimized schedule for a new datacenter through full collaboration with all key stakeholders which can be used as a pilot model.

Perform critical path analysis of the datacenter EPC delivery and establish methodology and mitigation plan to proactively mitigate the risks.

Develop bendmarking trend for various regions and type of datacenters and measure the project schedule performance. Work in collaboration with regional leaders to analyze and mitigate variations in a proactive and timely manner.

Drives strategic direction of teams and mentors others to broaden knowledge of the business, its data landscape, and the lineage of those data, and sets expectations for the use and integration of relevant data and trends across multiple sources. Leverages connections between their business and other areas of Microsoft’s business to anticipate and address business questions by integrating data and performing advanced analyses. Builds and leverages connections across areas of Microsoft’s business and the business in the industry to influence decision-making and yield insights that drive positive impact.

Customer/Stakeholder Orientation

Establishes and implements a customer- and/or stakeholder-oriented focus within their team(s) and organization. Ensures teams can recognize, leverage, and advise customer and/or stakeholder requirements when initiating, communicating, and implementing new projects/products plan. Interprets results, develops insights, and communicates results to customers and/or stakeholders within relevant contexts. Coaches and influences customers and/or stakeholders across organizations to help them establish ideal data practices. Handles escalations and works with project teams and wider Microsoft organizations to manage conflict, align priorities, resolve issues, and correct past discrepancies as needed. Responsible for helping team(s) to understand the bigger picture of how Microsoft delivers value with non-services teams and partners. Participates actively in partner identification and vetting, and actively engages with the wider Microsoft businesses and/or organizations to define joint ways of working.

Expertise in Data

Establishes themselves as a trusted expert in data, mentoring others and directing teams to evaluate the sufficiency of data for current and future needs across internal and external sources, and directing teams to proactively identify structural data needs and integrity, quality, and access issues. Manages and influences cross-functional partnerships across Microsoft organizations and/or business areas to guide and advise on the development and/or recommendation of data pipelines, integrations, or initial/prototype models and other data tools to inform and address business needs.

Data Analysis

Directs teams to proactively explore business needs in partnership with internal and external stakeholders, and to perform complex analyses involving multiple data sets and/or sources to address current and anticipated business needs. Fosters a climate where assumptions, tools, and/or techniques are consistently and critically evaluated, and directs teams to identify and address gaps to drive improvements in analyses and insights generation. Fosters collaboration across teams to develop, adopt, and improve upon recommended tools and techniques used to conduct analyses and leverage actionable insights. Anticipates the risks of data leakage, analytical trade-offs, methodological limitations, etc., and can guide teammates on solutions.

Reporting and Sharing Results

Coaches teams on best practices and sets standards for, presenting and sharing insights through various means including dashboards, reports, data visualizations, self-service platforms, slides, internal forums, ad-hoc inquiries, and talking points that enable others to make decisions confidently, influence leadership decision making, and drive business outcomes. Directs others to consider the needs of key stakeholder audiences and fosters improvements in the efficiency of insights reporting. Holds teams across their organization accountable for ensuring data and related insights are accessible and sufficiently relevant to influence decision-making for intended audience(s).

Experimentation and Innovation

Defines expectations and provides feedback and thought leadership that drive the design and execution of formal experiments and/or development of prototypes/proofs of concept. Ensures teams and individuals appropriately synthesize results, assess and take risks, apply previous learnings and trends, and link insights and recommendations to strategic business needs. Shares thought leadership and makes recommendations that lead to improvements in future experimental designs, evaluation frameworks, and research, as well as the solution(s) infrastructure. Provides guidance and sets expectations on the design and scoping of experimentation and evaluation frameworks involving emerging data sources. Directs efforts to execute on optimal and innovative methods for operationalizing, sharing, and scaling insights.

Improvement and Efficiency

Drives efforts across their organization to introduce innovative methods that create efficiency in core work and enable meaningful interpretation of data and drive business decisions. Sets expectations for and drives efforts to identify connections across related work that can drive efficiency across teams. Leads teams to determine and socialize optimal methods for operationalizing, sharing, and scaling insights, and implements automation of patterns of ad-hoc analyses into regular reporting features. Coaches others and sets expectations for sharing critical domain expertise to create clarity and ensure readiness to appropriately consume and leverage data and/or insights. Partners to develop and implement automation of core work tasks across related business units, and may showcase the features and benefits of innovative tools and/or methods to external customers and industry.

Model Evaluation

Vets and set expectations for model usage to ensure alignment in definitions and standards across teams, and communicates results of the assessment and process review to decide on next steps (e.g., deployment, further iterations, new projects) to team members and upper management. Tailors communication of evaluation findings for audiences of diverse technical backgrounds, and influences others across teams to do the same. Initiates and drives steps necessary for the deployment of evaluation results.

Orchestration and Collaboration

Serves as a role model for establishing and leveraging strategic working relationships within and across teams to ensure alignment and quality execution of data sourcing, shared understanding of business priorities, and optimal use of analytical tools, models, processes, and insights, and dives their adoption across relevant organizations. Engages internal and external stakeholders to define and update expectations for leveraging contributions across the organization with a focus on addressing strategic business needs. Proactively shares and reinforces best practices, and connects key stakeholders across relevant teams, organizations, and/or business groups.

Data Privacy and Governance

Leads by example in supporting teams to develop and maintain expertise in and influence over data privacy requirements, responsible and ethical data handling practices, and data classification and governance rules and regulations. Exemplifies and enforces standards related to bias, privacy, and ethics, holding teams across their organization accountable for ensuring required work processes (e.g., privacy and Corporate, Executive, and Legal Affairs [CELA] reviews) and results align with current or updated data privacy, legal, and governance requirements.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Analytics, Engineering, , product/technical program management, Business, or related field AND 10+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis

OR Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field AND 8+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis

OR equivalent experience.

5+ years people management experience including datacenters planning

5+years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects

Business Analytics M6 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $152,300 – $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $194,800 – $292,200 per year.

Microsoft has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States, which allows us to pay employees competitively and consistently in different geographic markets (see below). The range above reflects the potential base pay across the U.S. for this role (except as noted below); the applicable base pay range will depend on what ultimately is determined to be the candidate’s primary work location. Individual base pay depends on various factors, in addition to primary work location, such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Base pay ranges are reviewed and typically updated each year. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.

At Microsoft certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role. U.S.-based employees have access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and wellbeing benefits, among others. The way we define roles includes two things: discipline (the type of work) and career stage (scope and complexity).
