As we continue down the path of delivering on our customer promise, we are looking for a Director to lead the W+D Investment Management team. The Investment Management team is responsible for the planning and management of over $2.5B in R&D operating expense spend across funded headcount, product spend, lab expenses, etc. This Director will drive long range planning (LRP) for R&D expenses for a 3 year+ period, lead planning and delivery of financial forecasts, and manage risks and opportunities across the business throughout the year. The role involves direct engagement with our engineering partners in Windows and Devices, Finance, HR, as well as teams in Manufacturing and Operations.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter with proven skills in driving key initiatives with results through engagement with internal partners, have a solid engineering and business acumen across program management, financial forecasting, planning, data analytics, and business/performance management. The candidate will be a problem solver and be resourceful, creative, and willing to work with and through others to be successful. Strong people management, program management and collaboration are critical skills in this role. Strong verbal and written communication skills and analytical thinking are necessary for driving a high level of impact and influence in this capacity.
Responsibilities
Provide clear direction to the team on core priorities, strategic initiatives & process changes
Partner closely with engineering, driving short and long-term financial and long-range plans across programs, labs, and services
Partner with engineering, finance, and operations to manage the delivery of the operating expense budget for the quarter and annually
Management and communication of Risks and Opportunities – Identify creative ways to balance R&Os to maximize our investments across W+D in headcount and operating expenses
Understand product launch and roadmaps and partner with engineering to ensure the long term investment plan supports our growth aspirations
Collaborate with engineering, finance, and HR to help build our next gen tools for management of headcount and all R&D operating expenses for W+D
Partner across engineering leadership to drive optimal funded headcount investments and track performance to hiring plans with corrective actions when teams are not tracking to plan.
Ensure that data analytics/PBI support our business processes and enable our partners to be more successful through self-serve data views
Challenge the status quo via a growth mindset – strive for continuous improvement and customer-centrism in all aspects of decision making
Process Management: Continuously improve processes across all R&D investment management processes. Document and define end-to-end process improvement across functions, tools, and stakeholders
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or revelant degree
8+ years experience in program management; working directly with engineering, finance, operations and stakeholders.
Strong people management experience leading high performing teams
Proven track record for identifying risks and implementing mitigations successfully
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience writing and communicating with executives.
Cross-functional project management and collaboration skill
Data-oriented, analytical and detail oriented, yet balanced with an ability to be able to step back from the data to draw out the right business approach for conclusion.
