The Microsoft Sustainability Data Governance Program Manager provides leadership and management of Microsoft’s methodologies and measurement approach. They bring a depth of subject matter expertise around sustainability measurement frameworks and standards, and drive a cross-company program requiring extensive change management. They bring a passion to take the learnings that Microsoft develops internally and bring them to the relevant standards bodies to drive global adoption of a reporting framework.

Responsibilities
Data Governance:
Key thought leadership on the Methodology Governance Council, the function which governs the development and maintenance of sustainability methodologies, reviewing and assessing methodologies, claims and frameworks that deviate from the corporate standard. Directs corporate standard methodology updates into the sustainability data platform for the purpose of data updates and restatements. Researches markets, competitors, and industry trends.
Measurement:
Represent and support the One Microsoft Sustainability Measurement initiative, which is a cross-company effort to enable a consistent measurement approach to environmental sustainability metrics. Communicate how to align new methodologies inconsistent with corporate standards, equip the organization for high scrutiny by minimizing future risks of criticism, legal action, and loss of business value, and streamline processes to enable operational and business groups to drive quickly to resolution. Evaluates end-to-end supply chain operations, market conditions, and sourcing data to inform cross-functional decision making that enables continuous supply of products, components, and/or materials as needed to meet business and consumer demand. May flag risks, issues, and other critical factors related to suppliers’ supply chain for senior management to inform sourcing decisions for components and/or materials for Microsoft devices.
Planning:
Proactively assess the need for new sustainability methodologies, and where appropriate support business groups with developing the business case or environmental justification. Working in partnership with the sustainability roadmapping effort, develop a multi-year projection of planned methodologies and oversee their creation and adoption. Makes recommendations for investments in new technologies, initiatives, components, and/or materials that are critical to products and/or services based on technical expertise in those products/services, suppliers, and industry trends. Acquires buy in from stakeholders to ensure that resources are in place and influences the adoption of technologies across multiple product categories based on needs of Microsoft products or services.
Advance Global Framework:
Globally, methodologies rely on a common foundation that ensures carbon emissions are measured in an accurate, consistent and reliable manner. Work with external standards bodies to advance a common and well-defined framework for climate change-related metrics and methodologies. Supports early technical engagements with cross-functional leadership and business teams to determine sourcing requirements for system integrators. Provides consultation and influences internal teams on the choice of materials and/or components that can be reliably sourced for products or service infrastructure, and highlights systemic implications of sourcing decisions beyond a single component.
Sustainability Innovation:
Climate change is a challenge that we all face, and creative solutions will be required. Development and adoption of creative solutions will require building strong relationships both inside and outside the company and bringing diverse perspectives to the table to find mutually beneficial solutions to today’s challenges and others we will encounter in the future. Recommends whether or not to introduce new technologies, materials, or components for Microsoft products or cloud infrastructure based on competitive and industry trends. Evaluates long-term business needs, technology maturity, and tradeoffs to influence decision making and suggests processes for implementing changes.
Special Projects:
Drive high-impact cross-team projects as needed to meet the changing business environment and ensure the team is achieving commitments. Successful project management, including work with strategy consultants and other external agencies, on strategic efforts that require hands-on experience across multiple functional disciplines and business organizations.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR Master’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR Master’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
OR equivalent experience
8+ years of enterprise experience designing, deploying a holistic solutions; sustainability accounting experience, including GHG, SASB, GRI and TCFD standards
8+ years of program management experience, including governance and change management expertise
3+ years of Program, Project and Risk management experience
Clear understanding of carbon accounting practices and/or carbon market standards
The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $129,800 and $194,800.
At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
