If you want to play a role in the explosive growth of gaming and help to deliver exciting new games to a worldwide audience, we have an opening for you. This position will join the team that provides front-line legal support for Xbox Game Studios, the division that builds and publishes games such as Minecraft, Halo, Sea of Thieves, Age of Empires, and many more. We provide world-class legal support for Xbox teams developing games that bring joy to customers around the world. You will play a critical role supporting the legal function for Xbox Game Studios, guiding the development and distribution of AAA game titles in collaboration with teams from Game Pass, Cloud Gaming, and online services. This position will be based in Redmond, Washington.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is detailed and results-oriented, with outstanding organizational skills and the abilities to work independently and to drive cross-group projects involving diverse internal stakeholders, teams and cultures. Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations, are required. Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Provide broad legal support for the first party gaming businesses, including game development and publishing, merchandise licensing, inbound licensing of third-party content and intellectual property (IP), and securing and clearing rights for bringing game titles into our Game Pass subscription and xCloud streaming services.
Review, draft and negotiate game-related contracts and Statements of Work (SOWs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), contract amendments, third-party content and IP licenses and agreements.
Directing and counsel clients on a wide range of diverse legal issues relating to the development, marketing and publishing of game titles for use and distribution on Microsoft and third-party platforms.
Interface and work directly with various gaming support teams, including business development (BizDev), privacy, procurement, outside counsel and other professionals supporting gaming clients.
Drive efficiencies and work-process improvements across our team, including the managing and updating of template agreements, development of playbooks, coordinating client education programs and training materials, driving consistency and compliance on relevant legal and Microsoft policy areas, and using new technology to assist with the preceding.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree AND 4+ years experience in paralegal, legal administration, or relevant area OR 7+ years experience in paralegal, legal administration, or relevant area.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
5+ years relevant in-house experience.
Legal Awareness, Tools, Drafting and Solutions: Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations, including GDPR and other privacy laws and regulations. Ability to quickly master procedures, processes, tools and methodologies used within department/practice area. Developing and maintaining solutions to adapt and improve processes. Drafting and editing legal documents. Identifying legal issues and risks, consulting with internal and external counsel, evaluating alternatives, and recommending solutions.
Analytical Thinking: Gathering, integrating, and interpreting information from several sources; using information to generate insights, and make decisions. Anticipating potential legal issues and driving to positive results.
Program Management: Identifying multiple discrete tasks to be completed in support of a larger goal or objective, driving/actively managing the completion for each task, and tracking status towards completion across all tasks.
Business Acumen: Understanding parts of the business and their interrelationships. Understanding the industry, competition, and expected future developments and challenges, competitive strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities to grow and reduce costs.
Interpersonal Flexibility: Adapting one’s behavior to different people and situations, while recognizing, acknowledging and understanding different perspectives.
Team Culture: Ability to work in a respectful, open and diverse environment. Receptive to feedback and in finding new ways to deliver greater business impact.
The salary range in Colorado is $92,600-$138,100
