Tesla’s Automation Development team is at the forefront of building innovative automation equipment. This team is designing the next generation of equipment that will allow our operations team to produce amazing vehicles at best in class quality and rate, in a safe and ergonomic environment.
We are seeking an Associate Manager to focus on leading our mechanical and electrical assembly teams in Elgin, Illinois. In this role, the Associate Manager will work closely with the team to manage high visibility / value projects and will apply technical / leadership skills to assure the timely and efficient execution of the projects.
Responsibilities
- Workload planning and scheduling.
- Employee development and guidance.
- Strong understanding of automated equipment used for assembly, inspection, and fabrication.
- Understand schematic symbols in either JIC or ISO types. Ability to read schematics.
- Install equipment at other Tesla locations (up to 20% of the time).
- Interface with project team (i.e. Controls Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Assemblers, Project Manager, etc.).
- Build positive relationships direct reports, coworkers, and peers.
- Perform risk mitigation (i.e. anticipate problems before they occur).
- Troubleshoot and debug (i.e. diagnoses trouble or defects, determines corrective action and repairs system).
- Ensure that all equipment is in proper working condition after troubleshooting.
- Provide status updates to management on projects.
- Comply with the company’s safety procedures.
- Adhere to policies and procedures of Tesla.
- Must be able and willing to travel and work at other Tesla locations.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent, with some college or technical school course work
Minimum of 7 years of job-related experience, in building automated equipment
Ability to read/understand electrical schematics and create redlines.
High precision, close tolerance proficiency.
Ability to use hand tools.
Familiarity with machine shop equipment.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills of electrical controls system
Proficient in standard and metric systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitude
Must have ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Sharp, quick, dedicated and innovative problem solver
Must be organized, creative, results-oriented, focused and attentive to detail

Pay: From $90,000.00 per year
