Tesla is looking for a system design engineer to join the vehicle team. You are responsible for working with the vehicle architecture team to define the functional safety requirements for fail safe and fail operational systems. You will conduct various safety reviews, vetting the design robustness across all scenarios and operating conditions that our vehicles can encounter. Additionally, this role interacts with various vehicle-engineering teams (Chassis, Powertrain, HV, LV) to maintain interfaces and distill requirements.
Responsibilities
Work in coordination with the vehicle architecture team to define vehicle level functional-safety requirements
Define system reliability and robustness requirements for vehicle ECUs
Conduct Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment (HARA) of vehicle systems/features
Conduct Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) of vehicle systems/features
Work with data infrastructures team to strategically identify information to log that quantifies real world performance
Requirements
5+ years experience developing safety critical embedded systems (firmware/hardware)
Ability to quickly shift to a variety of development environments and manage multiple on-going projects.
Excellent communication and leadership skills
Experience conducting safety reviews (HARA, FTA, FMEA, etc.)
Knowledge of ISO-26262 or similar (DO-178, ARP-4754, IEC 62304, etc.)
Must demonstrate strong systems engineering fundamentals
Good scripting skills in at least one common language (Python, Matlab)
