We’re looking for a highly skilled and motivated Global Supply Manager, Capital Equipment to support our development teams in the sourcing of capital manufacturing equipment for current and future production projects. This role will report to our Supply Chain Group Manager and in parallel be an active sourcing resource supporting our various Manufacturing/Engineering groups within Tesla. The Global Supply Manager builds and leverages strong working relationships with our Manufacturing/Engineering teams and key suppliers to assure supply, quality, cost, and delivery targets are met. They work toward good supplier relationships and total costs of ownership to achieve maximum advantage for Tesla and our customers. Tesla is a fast-moving, dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are key attributes needed for success. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and motivated with sourcing expertise.
What You’ll Do
Build technical/commercial knowledge of industrial processes, technology development, and supply chain.
Identify qualified suppliers and drive continuous quality improvement.
Work on “Lean” initiatives and identify other sourcing efficiencies via benchmarking, VA/VE, competitive quotes, and resourcing.
Cultivate Best-in-Industry supplier relationships as the single point of contact for all commercial and strategic issues.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of Tesla’s procurement, production, and related ERP systems.
Build with Manufacturing/Engineering teams and issue RFQ packages to potential suppliers.
Validate, analyze, and make sourcing recommendations based on quote packages from suppliers.
Fully support aggressive program and project timelines.
Negotiate pricing, and commercial terms and issue Purchase Orders for Production Equipment, Tooling and services
Support organizational cost management objectives by identifying and negotiating commercial cost reduction opportunities.
Negotiate General Terms and Conditions with new and actual suppliers when needed.
Negotiate cost changes related to product design changes on current production.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Legal, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and/or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability.
5+ years of experience in Suppliers/Contracts Management, Sourcing/Procurement roles, and Business Development, Sales/customer account management, or Legal with experience in Capital Equipment.
Understanding of contract and commercial agreement fundamentals.
Experience using “should-cost” estimates, analyzing supplier proposals, manufacturing solutions, and quote cost breakdowns.
Open-minded self-starter with the ability to learn, adapt, improvise, and problems solving.
Service attitude and customer-oriented managing internal customers’ needs.
Ownership and being reliable to manage unexpected urgencies and resourceful to meet targets and goals.
Demonstrated experience achieving and negotiating cost-reduction or goal achievements.
Excellent Excel and other MS Office skills required.
Ability to work independently on multiple tasks and projects, with cross-functional teams including engineering, quality, logistics, finance, accounts payables and legal.
Excellent communication, written and verbal skills.
Structured thinking to solve complex commercial/supply situations with suppliers.
Negotiation business experience.
Team player and with strong interpersonal and project management skills.
