Tesla’s Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical raw materials, component development and qualification activities at suppliers. This role will be responsible for managing a team of chemical process and mining engineers who in turn will be responsible for qualifying raw material, precursors, ore extraction for critical cathode metals. This role will be high visible strategic role. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery designs from initial concept through into full production.
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. Responsibilities
Build a team of chemical, mining, project engineers to develop and oversee process/quality qualification requirements for active raw materials (all the way from mine extraction to finished raw powders)
Train and mentor the team to adopt to Tesla culture and be a role model.
Monitor production output at existing facilities and support expansion programs with existing major suppliers (mines, refineries, precursor and raw powder suppliers)
Support design and start up stages of new producers(miners) that Tesla has supply agreements with
Support/qualify any new electrode, precursor materials.
Qualify capacity expansion in existing electrode/precursor materials
Support material related FA @ Supplier location
Project manage activities in mines and refinery
Act as a bridge between Tesla Materials engineering team and miners
Ensure on time completion of planned activities in mines
Periodic communication of the progress of activities in mines
Review mining process flow, lookout for inefficacies to be improved
Requirements
MS, PhD in Chemical or Mining engineering discipline, with 10+ years of experience in Battery or Mining industry; 3+ years of leading/managing engineers
Experience in battery active raw materials/precursor process flow and quality controlExperience working as mining process engineers especially battery cathode related metal (Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt) mining/refinery is desired
Superior knowledge in one of the above areas (active material powder processing or mining) is a mandatory requirement
Ability to travel – 35% (domestically and internationally)
Experience in high volume manufacturing or direct experience in Battery related metal mining is highly desired.
