Tesla’s Megafactory is looking for a highly skilled and motivated New Product Introduction (NPI) Technician who will be responsible for ensuring a seamless launch of the newest Megapack product and sub-components.
The NPI Technician will be responsible for preparing materials and tools for performing NPI builds, trialing new materials, and maintaining the various NPI core functions to a high standard. This person is expected to be able to execute efficiently against provided instructions, self-validate work for accuracy, check the quality of previous operations, and meet critical deadlines. The NPI Technician shall have the capacity to be able to provide constructive feedback, define/iterate standard work, and suggest process improvements. The NPI technician is expected to lead in core production-readiness job scope – to mentor production associates, lead builds in defined areas and to uphold the highest standards of quality at every step of the way.
This role includes hands-on product build validation, collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure factory and line readiness as well as ensuring critical timelines are met through effective execution of key milestones. Experience with hand tools, machine tools, and use of semi-automated and automated manufacturing equipment is necessary. Significant experience in (1) or more – electrical, automotive, energy and/or mechanical areas is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Support Engineering teams in early prototyping product phases and provide iterative feedback toward continuous product improvement objectives to ensure program success
- Support the NPI team during all phases of product introduction (launch and sustaining)
- Support trials of new parts and materials to ensure seamless production implementation
- Perform varying degrees (basic to complex) of electro-mechanical assembly work and be able to work independently once a task is assigned, make connections with other employees, and work fluidly with the team to achieve great results
- Typically involves a variety of operations (including troubleshooting and rework) requiring a sufficient understanding of the functional operation of the items assembled as well as the finished product
- Possess a quick and flexible approach to problem solving, task juggling, and collaboration
- Responsible for high quality activities, including self-inspection, and thorough inspection of the process in its entirety
- Be comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously, interacting with multiple teams and conducting decisions to solve priority tasks
- Updates production records and test results, records process improvements, and manufacturability suggestions
- Communicates test results, ideas, and problems to supervisor and engineers; able to be part of the solution
- Identify discrepant materials/components both in writing and verbally to supervisor
- Complete tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules and within standard times and maintain a clean and orderly work area
- Possess an understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Environment, health, and safety considered in all activities and manufacturing validations
Requirements:
- Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems
- Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions and mechanical drawings
- Must have a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail married with the ability to work quickly and efficiently
- Good communication skills….Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
- Must be reliable, have good initiative, committed, quality focused, and have the ability to manage his/her time to shift between multiple tasks. Ability to prioritize tasks accordingly
- Team player; ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment with cross-functional teams
- Ability to perform repetitious duties while standing for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 30-50 lbs on a daily basis and to maintain a safe working environment
- Ability to use a Forklift preferred
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years’ experience in automotive, high tech, or other high volume/high complexity manufacturing in a similar capacity coupled with demonstration of exceptionable ability
- High School diploma or equivalent required. AS degree or similar technical certification highly preferred.
- Experience in energy product manufacturing a plus
- Experience as a technical lead is a plus
