The Permitting and Inspections Manager will oversee the Permit and Inspection Operations across their region for Tesla Energy Operations. Reporting to the Installation Manager, this individual will drive all parts of permitting projects and ensure that all energy related projects have successful passed inspection in accordance to local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements. The Permitting and Inspections Manager will own delivery of weekly, monthly, and quarterly production metrics for their region, have regular collaboration with field operations and other cross-functional teams, and will oversee improvements in overall process, efficiency, cost, and quality. The Permitting and Inspections Manager will have direct oversight of field-based Permit and Inspection Coordinators (PC’s and IC’s) for their region.
What You’ll Do
Lead Permit Coordinator and Inspection Coordinator teams to successfully meet company goals around permit readiness and passed inspections for energy products.
Work cross-functionally to manage permits and inspections timelines to remain within healthy operating levels. Identify and execute on targeted improvements to speed.
- Own staffing plan and headcount forecasts for respective region and work with recruiting and field ops to hire to plan in each office.
- Drive performance management for all permitting and inspections roles in your region.
- In collaboration with various support groups, identify opportunities to continue to improve permit and inspections coordinator efficiencies and quality. Support full implementation of solutions and measure success.
- Work with the field to identify process gaps and needs for tool improvements. Work across support teams and software groups to plan, scope, and execute on projects to improve healthy operation of permit programs
- Track and monitor key permit and inspections quality metrics – rejections, failures, process compliance, etc. Identify areas for targeted improvements and office level focus needed
- Support implementation of strategic campaigns for new products, tools, and processes – aim for rapid AHJ education and adoption
- Attend AHJ meetings and events as needed to represent Company interests. Collaborate with Policy and legal teams when their support and coordination is needed.
- Work with training team to ensure adequate training coverage for all field employees and manage training completion metrics.
- Enforce proper use and documentation within permitting tools, especially the AHJ database, Bolt, and Grid case procedures.

What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred
Experience managing large teams is preferred; minimum 3 years’ experience managing regionally based teams
Experience managing the permitting and inspections processes within construction and/or solar highly preferred
Familiarity with solar and storage products highly preferred
Experience with developing and implementing processes to improve efficiency and quality output
Experience using data to drive decisions and targeted problem solving
Ability to travel overnight for more than 20% of the time, depending on the size region
Ability to manage day to day workflow while also owning and supporting strategic initiatives
Excellent customer service skills required
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
