The Role (Palo Alto, CA)
This position will work as a member of Tesla’s Vehicle Dynamics group to support full vehicle and sub-system tests and development performed in-house and at external test tracks and proving grounds.
* Support preparation, component upgrades, and maintenance of vehicle dynamics prototype fleet
* Collaborate with development team to deliver world-class ride and handling attributes
* Perform and streamline component swaps (springs, stabilizer bars, dampers, bushings, etc.) during tuning sessions
* Installation of data acquisition equipment to include sensors (i.e. accelerometers, gyros, thermocouples, strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, torque sensors, displacement sensors, CAN bus traffic, GPS, etc.)
* Travel and/or transport vehicles to test tracks around the country, including proving grounds, winter test, press events, and racetracks
* Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and shop equipment, for the servicing of automobiles
* Create daily work plans to achieve test plan goals on schedule, and the ability to adjust to change frequently in order to successfully accomplish job duties.
Qualifications
* Automotive technician degree or equivalent work experience
* Proven track record of innovation and problem solving
* Experience with high-performance or luxury vehicles
* Ability to travel (20-30%)
* Experience with MS office tools (Outlook/Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project)
Preferred
* Experience in Damper Valve code reworks
* OEM Background
* Motorsport background
* Working knowledge of CAN, electronics, and data logging
* Fabrication skills
* TRC L3/4 Driving Certification or equivalent
